21st Century Testament Extracts Book of Environmentalism |

Chapter I 1. There has been a tendency to polarization in the general public in regards to the environmental movement. 2. There has been a tendency from the greater majority to call Environmentalism extreme, as something that is against commerce, or against capitalism in general. 3. There has been a tendency from the greater majority to view Environmentalism in such a way that it is perceived as against our normal human existence, such as it is in western civilization today, 4. And as a consequence of this we see almost anybody who is following the normal course of development in current western society believing that to be called an environmentalist is some sort of insult, 5. That is of course, unless it is in a year when Environmentalism, as it is perceived, happens to be in Fashion. 6. As we tripped over into the twenty-first century, Environmentalism, or at least how Environmentalism is perceived, was heading out of Fashion, very quickly. 7. But what Environmentalism is, is something that cannot go out of Fashion, for it is something for which Fashion never has, and never could have a hold, or even influence over. 8. Environmentalism is not about joining this group or that group and swallowing whatever they say. 9. No pursuit should ever be about such a thing. 10. The purest form of Environmentalism is, through study and research, to determine the state of the natural world. 11. To leave all of the anti-capitalist rhetoric (or capitalist for that matter), and any other adversarial ideology at the door, and apprehend the state of the natural world. 12. Environmentalism is the understanding and the compassion. 13. What we then choose to do about it is a matter that is quite separate from the issue of Environmentalism. 14. The most intellectual stance is to apprehend how we may change things for the better by taking account of the way human beings are; 15. Understanding what it is that those in a position to change things want and need, and to then structure our action around solutions that will get us to a better place by giving them what they want and need; 16. Structuring our solutions so that those in power will actually want to implement them. 17. The least intellectual is through violence, but equally lacking in intellectual vigour is to continue on the same path that has produced no major victories for decades. 18. Environmentalism is a purely intellectual pursuit, 19. And because of human nature and the dictates of fashion, must necessarily be separated from Activism. 20. Environmentalism is knowledge and understanding, 21. Activism or any other defined action we take in response to our knowledge and understanding, is what we do with that knowledge and understanding. 22. So unless we are all to goose-step back to the 1930s, and start burning books, Environmentalism can never be at the dictates of Fashion. 23. What remains is to structure our action, or activism in such a way so that it too can never be at the dictates of Fashion. 24. Indeed, if we structure our action so that those in power will be better off in the framework of solutions to our major problems, our activism will never be at the dictates of Fashion. |
